Katy Perry shoe got stuck in an air vent during this year’s Met Gala, according to a video from the event.
Oscar de la Renta designed the 37-year-old singer’s white silk mini-dress and floor-length black shawl with a floral collar, which she wore to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 2. She completed her ensemble with silver earrings and black transparent gloves.
However, as the American Idol judge arrived at the event, she had a minor problem with her shoes, which was later disclosed in a video posted to Instagram by Derek Blasberg, YouTube’s head of fashion and beauty.
Blasberg begins the video by recording model Karlie Koss, who said her “accessory of the year” at the Met Gala was her “knee brace,” which she coupled with her “couture gown.”
In the background, Perry could be heard saying: “She is beauty, and she is grace. She’s also got her foot stuck in a vent.”
Blasberg then zoomed in on Perry’s clear Aquazarra heel, which was stuck in an air vent on the floor. As she yelled, “Oh no, oh no!” a couple team members close to Perry assisted her in freeing her heel.
As he turned the camera towards himself, Blasberg stated, “Never a dull moment.” “The #metgala is a full contact sport,” he joked about how much labour goes into dealing with wardrobe malfunctions at the event, as the caption above the video reads.
Fans commented on how amused they were by the video and how they could connect to Perry’s struggle in the post’s comments.
“Love this. Best ever!! Real people with Met problems!!” one person wrote, while another said: “The heel stuck is the WORST!”
Other viewers also expressed how much they admired Perry. “Katy is the life of a party!” one fan wrote, while another Instagram user added: “You just gotta love Katy Perry.”
Perry spoke to Vanessa Hudgens and Hamish Bowles on the red carpet about her Met Gala gown on Monday evening. Daisy stated that she wanted to try a “different” look this year, noting that she was dressed as a cheeseburger the last time she attended the Met Gala.
“I mean it isn’t my first rodeo, so I feel like I can relax,” she said. “You know last time I came to the Met, I was a cheeseburger, I loved it. I was like: ‘What am I going to do tonight?’”
“I’m going to play a whole different card and now I feel like I’m just accepting the darling darkness,” she added.
She joked that she had no idea how she was going to use the bathroom in it because her dress was still a little challenging.
“I’ve been pinned in for three hours,” she said. “Don’t ask me how I’m going to the restroom ever or anyone at the Met.”
