The attorneys for Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have delivered their final statements, bringing the month-long defamation trial to a close. After hearing all of the testimony and examining all of the evidence, the jurors are now deliberating. It might take days for the decision to be made.

The high-profile case that has captivated everyone’s attention has been humming with developments for the past month. The $50 million defamation trial has flooded the internet with news, comments, and even jokes. It has now come to a close with the closing comments presented on May 27. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

Camille Vasquez, Johnny Depp’s lawyer, was the first to speak. Amber Heard, according to his lawyer, is a liar who cooked up domestic abuse allegations. Amber’s charges against her client, according to Vasquez, caused “irreparable injury” to JD’s reputation, and the actress committed an act of “deep cruelty” by claiming to be a domestic abuse victim.

For making the charges, Camille described Heard as “a terribly damaged individual, passionately scared of abandonment.” “MeToo is a good movement, but it’s for actual survivors, not Ms. Heard,” said another Johnny Depp lawyer, Benjamin Chew.

He even claimed that none of Depp’s other previous lovers had come forward with allegations of violence. Chew stated that while Ellen Barkin testified that the actor was “controlling” and “jealous,” that didn’t explain the physical abuse.

Then came Amber Heard’s legal team, who claimed that Depp had victimised her and reminded the jury that the case was about defamation and whether their client had defamed the Pirates of the Caribbean actor through her domestic abuse allegations. Amber’s attorney, Ben Rottenborn, requested the jury to side with them and decide if the Aquaman actress was ever mistreated by Johnny, which would rule out her 2018 op-ed as libellous.

Rottenborn went on to say that abuse may take many forms, including physical, emotional, and verbal. JD referred to himself as a “monster” on many occasions, according to her lawyer. “Let’s take a look at the monster.” Before airing a film of the actor bashing cabinet doors, Ben said, “Let’s see the monster in the flesh.”

Amber Heard’s lawyer also claimed that Johnny Depp launched an internet campaign to dismiss Amber’s claims as “false” and a “hoax” that wrecked her acting career.  Heard, “would have to be the dumbest person in the world to say ‘I’m gonna commit an abuse hoax, but let’s do it the day before I go on national television.’” according to Rottenborn.
