Psychologist asserts Amber Heard’s PTSD symptoms were “often exaggerated.”
A psychologist hired by Johnny Depp’s defence team has taken the stand once more, this time to refute PTSD results presented by another expert.
Dr Shannon Curry began by dismissing the likelihood of Amber Heard ever having PTSD, claiming, “I diagnosed Ms Heard with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder… and the cause was Mr Depp’s intimate partner abuse.”
“In general, there are three key areas I’d want to discuss today,” she continued.
“The first is that Dr Hughes misrepresented the tests and results that she used in her assessments. She misrepresented my testing and the outcomes of my examination.
And she testified in a way that portrayed her own thoughts and Ms Heard’s self-report as facts.”
She even mentions the usage of eight checklists that are “unsuitable for forensic contexts” since they are “easily abused.”
She referred to the PCL-5 PTSD checklist before concluding, calling it a “screening tool exclusively” since “it contains every single symptom of PTSD.”
“When you think about it, there’s a secondary concern here as well, considering that PTSD is the most often manufactured and claimed diagnosis in civil court.”
“If you gave someone a checklist that contains every symptom of PTSD, you’re effectively teaching them all the small nuances that we’re searching for to make that diagnosis,” she added.
“She provided it to Ms Heard, Ms Heard approved most of the items [on the list], and DR Hughes diagnosed her with PTSD, and validated that opinion by Ms Heard ticking those items on the PCL,” she stated before closing.
