Chris Pratt revealed that he is not religious while attacking religions and denying that he attends the contentious Hillsong Church.

The Jurassic World actor attempted to explain his religious views while criticising religions for the oppression they foster in a cover story for Men’s Health.

Pratt said, “For a very long time, religion has been (expletive) repressive. I had no idea that while not being religious, I would essentially become the face of religion ”

“I think there’s a difference between being religious and following man-made traditions, which frequently appropriate the respect due to what I believe to be a very real God, and using it to dominate people, take their money, mistreat their children, steal their property, or excuse hatred,” he continued.

“Regardless of what it is,” the actor continued. “The evil that exists in every man’s heart has attached itself to religion and joined the ride.”

After that, Pratt was questioned over rumours that he attended the contentious and “infamously anti-LGBTQ” Hillsong church.

He answered, “I’ve never been to Hillsong.” “I haven’t actually visited Hillsong. I know nobody who attends that church.

Pratt thinks that following his victory speech at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, the public began to misunderstand his religious views and he experienced abuse on social media.

“God exists. God desires the best for you because he loves you. I firmly believe that,” the actor stated during his address.

Pratt later admitted to the magazine that he may have had arrogance for getting up on stage and saying what he did. I’m not certain if I touched anyone.

As soon as Pratt became linked with the Hillsong church and faced harsh criticism from actor Elliot Page, the backlash against his religious convictions grew more intense.

“Don’t be surprised if someone merely wonders why it’s not addressed if you are a famous actor and you belong to an organisation that dislikes a certain set of people,” Page wrote on Twitter.

“There are no good or bad LGBTQ people; there is only one side. It results in severe harm. Stop there. Sending love to everyone,” the tweet said.

At the time, Pratt responded to the remarks by claiming that Page’s tweets “could not be further from the truth” and that the church he attends “opens its doors to absolutely everyone.”
