Hart was once in such a pickle that he had to drop out of hosting the Oscars in 2019. He was forced to apologize for a series of previous remarks, some of which were plainly homophobic.

Homophobia, which was prevalent in comedy at the time, was no longer acceptable, luckily. It was about this time that Kevin Hart was announced as the host of the 2019 Academy Awards, and let’s just say the reaction was mixed.
One of Kevin Hart’s now-deleted tweets said“Yo if my son comes home & try’s 2 play with my daughter’s doll house I’m going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ‘stop that’s gay.” “Why does “Why does (Damien Dante Wayans’) profile pic look like a gay bill board for AIDS?” one person wondered.

Kevin Hart, on the other hand, assessed the situation and decided to decline the hosting gig, stating, “I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”
