Madonna, a longtime LGBTQ ally and honorary gay, celebrated New York Pride on June 23 at Terminal 5 at World of Women’s NFT.NYC event. The pop icon, who recently covered Billboard’s World of Women NFT magazine, brought out a bevy of top-tier drag queens for her NYC Pride party. She also tapped iconoclasts in the making like Tokischa and Saucy Santana to help celebrate a month that distinguishes dilettantes from the true blues.

A dembow remix of M’s top 10 Hot 100 smash “Hung Up” brought back memories of the 2003 VMAs at the NYC location. Tokischa sang “Linda” with Rosala before Madonna performed “Hung Up.” The tunes began to blend, and the two (who had hinted at a collaboration before) continued to gyrate closer and closer until the inevitable make-out began. Tokischa knelt before the Queen during the late-night show to thank the music gods who paved the way. Madonna joked after the heady moment, “Somebody has to do it.”

Tokischa wasn’t Madge’s only newcomer in NYC. Saucy Santana helped Madonna perform a mash-up of his DGAF single “Material Girl” and her No. 2 hit “Material Girl,” commanding a large audience with ease.

Drag Race champ Bob the Drag Queen, NYC mainstay Pixie Aventura, and another Drag Race winner, Violet Chachki, performed an aerial show to “Justify My Love” before Madonna hit the stage.

Before she left, Madonna was joined by rappers, drag queens, and family for a run-through of Celebration’s title track. If NYC Pride, post-COVID, wasn’t feeling like a party earlier this week, it was by the time Madonna exited Terminal 5 on Thursday night, leaving the audience (powered by Belvedere Vodka’s Madge-themed cocktails) ready for Pride weekend in NYC.
