The Party names Vecna after a Dungeons & Dragons figure, like its predecessors (Demogorgon, Mind Flayer).

Vecna wasn’t born in the Upside Down; Eleven sent him there after he murdered the Hawkins National Lab. Vecna was Dr. Brenner’s first subject and Victor Creel’s kid. Number One had his powers restricted and worked as a lab helper. Eleven, not knowing Vecna was evil, restored his abilities, causing the carnage and his exile to the Upside Down.
