Ricky Martin faces restraining order in Puerto Rico

Police reported on Saturday that Puerto Rican superstar Ricky Martin is now subject to a restraining order.

Authorities attempted to serve the order after it was signed on Friday and they went to the singer’s residence in an affluent area of the north coastal town of Dorado, according to police spokesperson Axel Valencia.

“Up until now, police haven’t been able to find him,” Valencia said.

Martin’s publicist did not immediately return a message asking for comment.

The source of the restraining order request was not immediately clear. Because the order was submitted in accordance with Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law, Valencia said he was unable to disclose any additional information.

Martin is not allowed to communicate with or call the person who filed the order, according to him, and the judge will ultimately decide whether the order should be upheld or lifted after a hearing. He continued by saying such orders are often implemented for at least a month.

Valencia pointed out that the person who requested the restraining order did not call the police, which would have required the prosecution to decide whether there was sufficient evidence to press charges. Rather, the court received the request directly.
