  • Funko has released six figures based on characters from the franchise.
  • The largest and most eye-catching of the lot is Jake Sully with battle paint.

As anticipation for the long-awaited sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, grows, Funko has officially released a series of figures based on characters from the franchise via a tweet from their Twitter account.

According to the tweet, “Immerse yourself in the dangerous and beautiful rainforests and soar the skies of Pandora with these POPS! Bring home the wonder and adventure of Avatar today. Pre order now!”

The new figures include six distinct figures based on characters from the original film. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) with battle paint carrying a rifle on top of the enormous leonopteryx, known to the Na’Vi as toruk, in its gorgeously painted reddish-orange patterns with black stripes and characteristic blue crests, is the largest and most eye-catching of the lot.

The figure accurately recreates the sequence in the first film in which Jake assumes the title of Toruk Makto and goes into battle alongside Pandora’s many Na’Vi tribes.

Other figures scheduled for distribution include a different version of Jake Sully carrying a spear and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaa) crouching with a dagger in her hand.

Another version of Neytiri is also available, and it depicts her in battle paint while leaping and aiming a bow and arrow, recreating her crucial parts in the original movie’s epic climax.

However, since every group of heroes needs a villain, a Funko for Colonel Miles Quaritch, who was portrayed by Stephen Lang in the film, has also been made public. The figure poses menacingly while brandishing a rifle and bears the character’s distinctive head scars.

Fascinatingly, the new Funko figurines seem to just be based on the first movie in the series rather than anything connected to its planned sequel, similar to the first wave of McFarlane Toys’ Avatar sets.

It is unknown whether subsequent figurines will be based on more recent characters or animals from the franchise, but given the growing excitement, it won’t be shocking if more Funkos are on the way.

Avatar fans can now finally stock their shelves with the expansive science fiction cosmos thanks to the franchise’s collectible brand debut.

The long-awaited sequel from director James Cameron will finally be released, and the Funko figures are the latest in a major marketing campaign to build anticipation.

Only time will tell if viewers are prepared to go back and return for a brand-new adventure in the lovely yet enigmatic realm of Pandora after 13 years of waiting.

Avatar: The Way of Water eventually reaches theatres on December 16, so fans won’t have to wait much longer.
