It had been impossible to kill James Bond before, and the 2021 James Bond movie, No Time to Die, hints that the long-running fictional figure wouldn’t be dying just yet either.
However, Daniel Craig, the sixth actor to take on the role, stated that he intended his incarnation of the character to pass the gun to the following actor who would be portraying the illustrious spy in the most dramatic and “full” way possible.
Contrary to the film’s title, James Bond passed away at the conclusion, becoming the first fictional character created by Ian Fleming to pass away in any of the 25 films that have been made about him during the course of his 59-year film career.
The 54-year-old English actor discussed his two Knives Out movies and his enduring 007 role, which he portrayed in five films between 2006 and 2021, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
When James Bond passed away at the conclusion of the Cary Joji Fukunaga-directed movie, audiences were shocked and surprised, but the actor wouldn’t have it any other way.
Craig responded, “Two things, one for me and one for the franchise,” noting the franchise “reset” as one of the main factors. ‘Well, you need to reset again,’ I said. So let’s kill off my character and look for another Bond and a new plot. Start when you’re [age] 23, then 25, then 30.
He mentioned wanting to stop portraying the character as the second rationale. “The other was to allow me to continue.
He also said, “I don’t want to go back. If they were to ask me back, I suppose I should consider myself lucky, but the truth is that I need to move on from it.
There is no greater sacrifice than the one he makes in the film, which was done out of love. Therefore, it seemed fitting to end on it. Léa Seydoux, who played Dr. Madeleine Swann in Blue Is the Warmest Color, played Bond’s love interest.
Bond used himself as a sacrifice to save Swann and their daughter, who he had just lately discovered he was the father of. And it’s true that it seemed like a wise decision to finally and dramatically end the character’s existence.
The search for a new James Bond has begun, and while Craig has officially left the franchise, the film’s producer earlier stated via Deadline that “younger people” are no longer in the running.
“In the past, we’ve attempted to look at younger folks. However, attempting to picture it doesn’t work. Keep in mind that Bond is experienced.
He has some background. He is a person who, in a sense, has been through the battles. He most likely served in the SAS or another group. He is not a recent high school graduate who you can start off with. That is why a thirty-something can use it.
Now available on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD is No Time to Die. In the upcoming Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which debuts on Netflix on November 23, Craig will reprise his Benoit Blanc role.
