Dave Bautista has offered his services for the recently announced Gears of War film for Netflix, which is now in production. He is focusing on Marcus Fenix, the primary character.
For maximum visibility, the actor published a video of himself from a previous promotional campaign on Twitter and Instagram while donning Fenix’s trademark armour. “I can’t make this any easier,” he said in a succinct caption for the video.
Bautista has a lengthy history with Gears of War. He previously provided Microsoft with his likeness so that gamers could unlock a character based on him for the multiplayer aspects in the sequel, and players may utilize the character as part of the most recent game, Gears of War 5.
Cliff Bleszinski, the designer of Gears of War, has expressed his support for Bautista taking on the position.
In response to the Netflix announcement, Bleszinski tweeted his opinions. He praised Bautista, writing, “Yes, Bautista as Marcus please.” In response to Bautista’s tweet today, Bleszinski reiterated his position, adding, “Brother, as the designer of 1, 2, and 3, you’re my first option.”
Beyond simply giving his likeness and being a fan, Bautista has a deeper connection to the brand. In a previous interview, the actor told Collider that he declined a part in the popular Fast and Furious franchise in order to pitch a Gears movie to Universal.
The studio passed on it at the time, but it now appears that the former WWE superstar may get his wish. Additionally, Bautista and Netflix already have a productive working connection.
After filming Army of the Dead for them and declining Suicide Squad, he will next be seen in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery for the streamer.
Additionally, he was said to be in negotiations to play the lead role in the police dog story Unleashed.
A number of additional video game adaptations are now in development at Netflix, including the one for Gears of War. They are working on an adaptation of the stunning Horizon Zero Dawn series, a Bioshock movie, and an Assassin’s Creed television series.
Netflix’s decision to work with Bautista is not a risk, though. His star power would put the Gears adaptation at the top of the list of priorities and signal to fans that it would be worth the wait.
Fans are crossing their fingers that this one materializes, but until then, you can see Bautista in the Glass Onion video down below.
