The music video for the song “Not Alone” by Joe Jonas and Khalid, which is on the Devotion soundtrack and is set during a time of war, has been published. Just in time for Veterans Day, the music video was released on Friday, November 11, in recognition of those who have served in the US armed forces.

Based on the friendship, bravery, and sacrifice of naval pilots Ensign Jesse Brown (Jonathan Majors) and Lieutenant Tom Hudner, the World War II movie is a true story about friendship (Glen Powell).

Brown was the first African-American carrier pilot in the US Navy. The song, which Bernard Harvey and Ryan Tedder co-wrote, pays tribute to soldiers’ sacrifice.

A scene from the movie featuring Majors precedes Jonas’ first line, “Another step on your own,” in the music video.

A further mile flown by you. With lyrics like “you are not alone, I’ll watch over you,” the soundtrack portrays the tale of friendship and sacrifice just like the story does.

Quran Squire, the director of the music video, stated in a PEOPLE interview that he aimed to bring the emotion from the book and script into the music video. Squire declared: “How can we take the emotion from a book, to the script, to the film, to a music video. That level of devotion to what it is you want to give of yourself, we all have to sacrifice at some point in life.”

Marty Goode, the character played by Jonas in Devotion, also mentioned that he wanted the music video to convey the story’s genuine passion. He disclosed that the movie used the plane from the music video:

“We definitely spoke about the idea of shooting this video as a separation of my two passions from music, and acting. I’m not playing a character in this video, I’m myself. But we wanted the video to speak to the raw emotion of the song, so everything from the clothing to actually having one of the planes we used in the film.”

Khalid expressed his appreciation for being a part of the song in an interview:

“I’m very thankful that Joe reached out to me to be a part of this. I think that the message is really special. The movie, he tells me, is incredible. I can’t wait to see it for myself. And this is just a beautiful experience all around. Good vibes, good people, good energy. And I can’t wait for you guys to hear the song and see the movie.”

On November 23, Devotion will be made available. Here is a music video for you to watch:
