Avatar the way of water crosses $500 Million

Avatar 2 is a box office smash.

Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to have made over $500 million globally by Tuesday night, Deadline reports.

The Way of Water earned $134 million domestically and $301 million internationally in its opening weekend, according to Variety. The original Avatar movie generated $77 million domestically in its first weekend in December 2009, and over $2.7 billion worldwide.

Avatar 2 scored the year’s fourth-biggest opening weekend, per Variety. The Hollywood Reporter predicted the film will earn $150 million to $175 million domestically and $450 million to $550 million globally.

The Way of Water is about Jake (Worthington, 46) and Neytiri’s (Saldaa, 44) family and “the trouble that follows them, the lengths they take to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”

James Cameron came on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in April 2021 to discuss the sequel to Avatar.

Cameron, 68, says he warned 20th Century Studios the film had “the worst business case in movie history” The director told Entertainment Weekly in December 2021 that he feared the sequels wouldn’t top Avatar.

“Profit? Costly films must be lucrative.” Titanic just turned 25. “It’s a new world post-COVID, post-streaming. Maybe [box office] won’t recover. Unknown. Uncertain.”
