Doctor Who,” fans are already in the Christmas spirit. The 14th season of the long-running science-fiction television series has begun filming, with Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa taking on the role of the Fifteenth Doctor.

Following the announcement that David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor, will return for the show’s 60th anniversary as the Fourteenth incarnation of the Doctor, the series showrunner, Russell T.

Davies, revealed via Magazine that the critically acclaimed series will have another Christmas special—something the show hasn’t done in five years—possibly scheduled for 2023 and 2024 releases.

The show’s 60th anniversary will be marked by three specials starring Tennant and Catherine Tate, with Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney set to play Rose Tyler.

To brighten the show’s future, Davies revealed to Doctor’s Magazine that, “for the first time ever” since 2017, he will be writing a Christmas special, with at least one separate special for the years 2023 and 2024, adding, “The 2023 script has long since been signed off.”

The new one is set for the end of 2024!” Doctor’s fans, on the other hand, will have to wait a little longer for the release of the next season. “It takes some time to shape the empire, but that’s a serious plan: annual Doctor’s, no gap years, tonnes of content, and so on.”

Davies previously served as the series’ showrunner from its inception to the end of Tennant’s tenure as The Doctor. Fans are naturally excited to see what the screenwriter has in store for the long-running series now that he is back as Who’s showrunner.

Tennant previously expressed his excitement about Davies’ return during the Fan Expo panel, though he’s not allowed to say much about the show’s future: “The things that on in Russell T Davies’ mind! If only we could all have a ferret around in there, it would be very exciting… I know that he’s now in charge of Doctor Who again. I know that’s very exciting. I know that I’m not allowed to say much about that.”

It revolves around an alien Time Lord named the Doctor, who is an extraterrestrial entity that takes on human form.

The British television series made its debut on the BBC in 1963. It has since become a success, with 26 seasons from 1963 to 1989 and 13 seasons from 2005 to 2021.
