Antonio Banderas was able to set new priorities for his life, after suffering a heart attack in 2017.

“I realized that it probably was one of the best things that ever happened in my life because the things that were not important and I was worried every day about them, meaningless,” he exclusively tells.

“I was like, why am I worried about that if I’m going to die?” he explains. “I knew always [that I was going to die], but now I know. I’ve seen it right here.”

He continues, “things that I thought were important previously but weren’t actually,” adding that the vital things, like his daughter Stella, whom he shares with Melanie Griffith, his friends, family, and his “passion as an actor,” stayed.

The 62-year-old actor, who was born in Spain, had a heart attack in January 2017 and attributes his life being saved to his longtime partner Nicole Kimpel’s prompt action in giving him an aspirin.

He claimed it wasn’t serious and didn’t result in any significant harm, but he did have three stents inserted into his arteries in March of that year.

“It hasn’t been as dramatic as some have written,” he told press at the time.

In “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” in which Puss learns that he has used up eight of his nine lives and sets out on a quest to retrieve the legendary last wish, Banderas will soon be heard reprising his role as the rapscallion feline.

The Oscar contender admits that while he has experienced difficult times, they haven’t persisted for very long because he is “a very positive person by nature. My depressions last five minutes, I bounce back immediately.”

The Tony Award-winning actor Banderas, who is presently performing on stage in Madrid in “Company,” also makes indications that he would soon make his long-awaited Broadway comeback.

He quips, “Something has been written as we talk,” and the character will fit with my Iberian accent.

On December 21, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” hits theatres.
