Johnny Depp returns to his Jack Sparrow role for ‘Make-A-Wish’
Johnny Depp once again has donned the hat of Captain Jack Sparrow, and this time, it’s for the kindest of causes.
Depp once more pulled himself up by the bootstraps and played his most well-known role to record a video greeting for a young fan as part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Depp made the video for Kori, an 11-year-old fan who manages the “Kraken The Box” YouTube account.
Kori watched the Pirates of the Caribbean films as a source of consolation and support during protracted periods of rehabilitation after undergoing many heart transplant surgeries. Kori was in palliative care at the time.
Depp has previously worn the Captain Jack costume off-camera. During a break from filming Pirates of the Caribbean, he is renowned for paying visits to an English school: He has frequently visited hospitals to cheer up sick children.
He started the tradition when his daughter Lily-Rose Depp fell ill during the production of an early Pirates movie, and he ended up giving $1 million to the Great Ormond Street Hospital. On Stranger Tides, however, he was asked for help by a young fan in staging a mutiny against the teachers.
Captain Jack says, “So, Capt. Kori, terribly sorry I missed out on this. Meant to say it, forgot to say it, didn’t say it, gonna say it now. Saying it, I’ll say it,” “I hear tell of something they speak about in the ages of now called the YouTube channel, which I don’t understand, but why not?… I think it will make for a wonderful entertainment expertise momentary lapse of togetherness altogether in one space, but far apart, but then, at the same time, very close. Curious, enduring and strange.”
Depp ended the video by wishing the youngster luck and saying, “I am your number one fan, Captain Kori,” adding that he and all of his friends will be subscribing to the boy’s YouTube channel.
Despite being scheduled to resume his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the sixth instalment of the Pirates series, Depp was fired by Disney due to abuse claims made by his ex-wife Amber Heard, it was disclosed during his defamation case against Heard.
Heard was found guilty of defamation on June 1 by a unanimous verdict of the jury, which found that her claims that Depp had abused her were false.
In Depp’s defamation lawsuit, Heard was sentenced to pay $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive penalties.
When asked today if Depp could reprise his role as Capt. Jack, the original Pirates’ producer Jerry Bruckheimer said, “We’re still working on it.”
For the time being, you may watch Depp reprise his part and brighten a child’s day in the video below.
