The most anticipated animated and comic book movie of the year is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. This June marks the release of the much-anticipated, critically acclaimed 2018 Oscar winner sequel, and in a brand-new image, Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales faces an unexpected danger.

Sony Pictures Animation revealed a new image for the web-slinging sequel that features Miles Morales versus Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara, alias Spider-Man 2099, in an article by The Wrap commemorating Sony Pictures Animation’s 20th anniversary.

Miles is being held against a wall by Spider-Man 2099, who appears to be in the Spider-primary Verse’s hub or layer. We had a peek of this in the most recent teaser, which was unveiled earlier this month, but here we get a close-up look into the Spider-inner Verse’s struggle.

The entire Spider-Verse is pitted against Miles because of something that isn’t clear and probably has to do with the movie’s new main antagonist The Spot.

While this sequel will have bad guys like The Spot and The Vulture, it appears that Spider-Man 2099 will serve as the major enemy and harbour some sinister truths that cause the core Spider-Duo to doubt their status as heroes.

We’ll have to wait to find out what those secrets are, but based on all the marketing we’ve seen so far, the sequel to the excellent Spider-Man seems to be even larger and better.

The stakes for this future journey seem especially high, and lately Spider-lead Verse’s animator hinted at the trilogy’s concluding feature, Beyond the Spider-Verse, having an Avengers: Endgame-like scope.

Producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller stated in The Wrap’s own article about Spider-Verse that “the things we’re doing in this new Spider-Verse movie are breaking the pipelines all over again. But rather than just being afraid, everyone is thrilled about it. The sequel is “certainly more wild,” they would continue.

Nobody anticipated that Into the Spider-Verse, which debuted in 2018, would rank among the greatest animated pictures ever produced, yet that is exactly what happened. It was a breath-taking, character-driven, heartfelt coming-of-age tale that offered a new perspective on the well-known Spider-Man origin tale. a tale that cinema fans currently know by heart.

Above all else, though, was the animation, which was a masterpiece. This sequel appears to carry on that on a far greater scale, and this image alone is, to put it mildly, magnificent.

Before Spider-Verse trilogy’s conclusion with Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2024, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premieres in theatres on June 2, 2023.
