Netflix could add the December 2nd-released comedy-thriller Violent Night, but only in select territories.
Violent Night, starring David Harbour from Netflix’s flagship series Stranger Things, will be available on the streaming service as a result of a partnership between the streaming service and Universal Studios.
According to What’s on Netflix, Netflix (US) and Universal Studios reached a contract in 2021 governing the availability of all films on the streaming site four years after their initial release.
The deal announcement was as follows, “As part of the deal, Netflix will also license rights to the full Animated and Live Action slate from UFEG about 4 years after release as well as rights to select titles from Universal’s vast movie library.”
Therefore, the film will not be available on Netflix (US) until 2026. Regarding other nations, it is difficult to determine when the movie will be uploaded.
Central European nations receive Universal films within three months of their release, therefore the film will be added to these regions at the beginning of 2023.
Since South Korea adds Universal films a year after their theatrical debut, Violent Night will be added in 2023.
Countries such as Canada, Japan, South Africa, India, and the United Kingdom receive Universal films two and a half years after their initial release in theaters, thus this Christmas film won’t be available until at least 2024.
