The filmmaker said the actor and director duo gave back-to-back hit films in Bollywood for a decade.
Govinda had made his Bollywood debut with the 1986 film Ilzaam
In a recent interview, Rohit Shetty discussed Govinda and David Dhawan. The director claimed that for ten years, the actor-director team produced back-to-back blockbusters in Bollywood. Rohit praised Govinda, saying that if he had received “his due,” the actor would have been “the biggest superstar.” Since making his Bollywood debut in 1986 with the movie Ilzaam, Govinda has appeared in movies like Coolie No. 1 and Raja Babu.
Rohit Shetty has been busy promoting the movie Cirkus, which is coming out soon. During a recent interview, the director was asked to guess which movie made the most money in 1993. He quickly answered, “Aankhen.” David Dhawan was in charge of making the movie, which starred Govinda and Chunky Pandey. Rohit then talked about the movie and other Govinda movies. He praised him for making blockbuster movies over and over again for many years. Rohit also said that Govinda “didn’t get his due” in Bollywood, even though he had a string of hits.
Rohit told Bollywood media”For 10 years, that guy (Govinda) gave blockbusters. He and David Dhawan gave Shola Aur Shabnam, Aankhen, Raja Babu, Jodi No 1, Coolie No 1, and Haseena Maan Jaayegi, that was back-to-back. I think he didn’t get his due otherwise he would have been the biggest superstar. Ab social media hai, ek chalti hai toh sab chilate hai. Back-to-back for ten years both (Govinda and David Dhawan) had given hits.”
