Will Smith prioritizes family.
Will Smith’s family, including Trey Smith, Willow Smith, and Jaden Smith, attended the Los Angeles premiere of Emancipation on Nov. 30.
Jada, 51, donned a white Stephane Rolland gown while Will, 54, wore a pale pink button-down shirt beneath a burgundy tuxedo. Willow, 22, wore a glittery Stella McCartney dress and Jaden, 24, wore a black-and-white picture suit. Trey, Will’s 30-year-old son with ex-wife Sheree Zampino, coordinated with his dad.
According to Apple TV+, Emancipation is about Peter (Will), “who escapes from slavery, relying on his wits, strong faith, and profound love for his family to dodge cold-blooded pursuers and the brutal marshes of Louisiana.” Peter joined the Union Army, and the film is based on 1863 images of “Whipped Peter”.
Will recalls discussing the position with Willow on The Daily Show.
“My kid questioned, ‘Daddy, do we need another slave movie?'” he recalled. “I replied, “Baby, I promised you no slave movie.” It’s a liberation film.”
Will’s first film since slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars in March over Jada’s shorn head is Emancipation (the Girls Trip star has publicly spoken about her alopecia diagnosis in the past). Will subsequently apologized to Chris for his “unacceptable actions” after winning the Oscar for King Richard. He quit the Academy and is banned for 10 years.
Will hoped the incident wouldn’t affect Antoine Fuqua’s film to Trevor Noah.
“These individuals came and trusted me and were down for me,” he wrote, praising cameraman Robert Richardson and co-star Ben Foster. “I hope their work will be valued and not stained by a dreadful mistake on my behalf.”
