Meghan Markle forced to break promise she made to Queen Elizabeth II

• The first meeting was a last minute affair at Windsor Castle.
• Queen allegedly told Meghan she could continue her acting career if she so desired.
• Meghan was named Vice President of The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.

When Prince Harry realised Meghan Markle was The One, he couldn’t wait to introduce her to his beloved Granny, the Queen.

The first meeting was a last minute affair at Windsor Castle, so much so that the American actress ended up getting a crash course in curtseying in the front garden from Harry’s aunt, Sarah Ferguson.

But as soon as she stepped inside, the two women hit it off. They discussed Meghan’s work and her life in Canada.

The visit lasted about 20 minutes, during which the Queen allegedly told Meghan she could continue her acting career if she so desired.

Gyles Brandreth, Prince Philip’s close friend, claims in his book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait that Meghan used that meeting to make it clear to the Queen that she wanted to focus all of her efforts on royal duties.

He writes: “She did everything she could to make her future granddaughter-in-law feel welcome. She was concerned for her future happiness. At their first meeting, the Queen said to Meghan: ‘You can carry on being an actress if you like – that’s your profession, after all.’

“But Meghan was ready for royal duty and, of course, the Queen was delighted by that. She was particularly delighted by the enthusiasm Meghan showed for the Commonwealth and the commitment she made to the Queen to do ‘whatever you think we should be doing for the Commonwealth’.”

Gyles also claims that Meghan used the meeting to make a promise to the Queen, which she was unable to keep.

He continues: “She promised the Queen that when it came to the Commonwealth she wouldn’t let Her Majesty down. The Queen liked Meghan and told lots of people so.”

Clearly believing in Meghan, the Queen appointed her to a key position within the Commonwealth soon after their wedding. Meghan was named Vice President of The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust on International Women’s Day.
