On their historic visit to Brick Lane, King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla were greeted warmly by the British Bangladeshi community.
The royal couple was all smiles and high spirits as they shook hands and chatted with well-wishers on a walkabout of “Bangla Town” in honour of Bangladeshis’ contributions to the life of the nation.
Following the visit, a stalwart of London’s Bangladeshi community referred to Britain’s new monarch as a “inclusive and supportive” King.
The royal family posted the touching video of Camilla and Charles’ visit to the street to their official social media accounts, captioning it: “Thank you for your bright welcome to Brick Lane! It was wonderful to meet so many Bangladeshi community members here today.”
Camilla and Charles planted an elm tree in a nearby park during their visit. The King and Queen Consort also met with local community leaders in a restaurant, where they were given a takeaway bag of treats, including jalabi, a sticky dessert popular in South Asia.
Later, the monarch paid a visit to the University of East London’s (UEL) Stratford campus to mark the university’s 125th anniversary, unveiling a plaque and inaugurating a new hospital and primary care training hub.
