LONDON (AP) — The 2023 Eurovision Song Contest will be hosted by British singer Alesha Dixon, Julia Sanina, and Hannah Waddingham, stars of the movie “Ted Lasso.”
Following a request to host the event on behalf of Ukraine, the chosen host country, Liverpool, England, will host the pan-continental pop competition in May.
For the title of Europe’s pop champion, 37 nations will compete. Semifinals will be place on May 9 and 11, and the final will be on May 13. Waddingham, Sanin, and Dixon, three TV presenters and former Mis-Teeq members, will serve as the hosts of all three shows.
The Hardkiss’ Sanina expressed her excitement for the opportunity to display Ukrainian culture and creativity and to contribute to a performance that would make her country proud.
In the popular Apple TV+ comedy “Ted Lasso,” Waddingham, who won an Emmy for playing the owner of a struggling soccer team, said it was “a wonderful honour to be standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine, a country which has conducted itself with such strength and solidarity.”
When Ukraine’s entry, the folk-rap group Kalush Orchestra, won the 2022 competition, it was awarded the chance to host the pop extravaganza. According to the British organisers, the occasion will honour Liverpool’s musical tradition as well as Ukrainian culture and innovation.
