Questlove and The Roots hosted a ceremony on Sunday night (05.02.23) to honour hip hop’s 50th anniversary. Nelly, Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Run-DMC, and DJ Jazzy Jeff made special guest appearances.

The former “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” star was also intended to be “part of the festivities,” the celebrity acknowledged to Variety.

He said: “I’ll give the spoiler alert away. Will Smith was part of the festivities tonight, but they started shooting ‘Bad Boys 4’ this week.

“There were a lot of preliminary shots that he had to do, so we had to lose Will.”

Due of his hectic filming schedule, Questlove continued that having the Hollywood celebrity involved was “a shot in the dark.”

It would have been Will’s first award show appearance since he smacked Chris Rock at the Oscars last year when the comedian made a joke about the actor’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith. If he had been able to participate.
