Rani Mukerji gets emotional many times during ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’ shoot

For the first time, Ashima Chibber and Rani Mukerji collaborated on the family story Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway. The Hindi movie depicts the true story of Sagarika Chakraborty, an Indian mother who battled for custody of her young children after the government abducted them abroad. The director talked about how difficult it was for both of them to shoot some of the movie’s scenes because Rani was sobbing in many of them. The encounter strengthened their friendship.

The director added that because Rani was a mother herself, she could relate to the narrative and emotions very well. In 2014, Rani wed producer-director Aditya Chopra. Their daughter Adira Chopra, age 7, is their only child. The actor was able to portray Sagarika’s three-year journey from the time she first arrived in Norway until she was forced to depart without her children throughout the course of the movie.

Ashima discussed her relationship with Rani in an interview with Mid-Day, saying, “When I decided to become a single mother and I was pregnant, she was the first one I confided in. And I saw a side to Rani which was so brave, compassionate, and supportive of me. Rani is the epitome of motherhood. Who else could have understood this story better than her? So, every day was a revelation to me.”

She continued, “It was an emotional ride for us. Rani was crying, and I was pretty emotional while doing the scenes. I couldn’t imagine that someone had suffered this long; 610 days without your child is excruciatingly painful, everything else is peripheral for me.”

Ashima directed the 2013 comedy Mere Dad Ki Maruti for Yash Raj Films. She has also directed episodes of Yeh Hai Aashiqui and MTV Fanaah: An Impossible Love Story. She is the child’s sole mom.

Last seen with Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Sharvari Wagh in Bunty Aur Babli 2, Rani. Later this year, the actress will also publish a memoir in which she will discuss her 25 years in the movie business and other topics.
