Taylor Swift discusses the true significance of her song “Betty”
Taylor Swift first public performance since the 2018 Reputation tour, during which she spoke about a recurring topic in her songs, took place in Arizona.
Before singing songs from her album Folklore’s Betty, the Lavender Haze singer took a brief break. Through Us Weekly, she talked openly about her choice to create characters for the Grammy-winning record.
I love to teach men how to apologize, which is sort of a repeating topic in my songs. At her performance in Glendale, Arizona on Friday, March 17, Swift addressed the crowd, “I absolutely adore it.
It sort of is my thing. ‘Here’s how simple this is to solve problems if you just follow these basic steps that I am setting out for you in a three-minute song,’ I love to say as I walk them through it step-by-step. I adore the concept of males apologizing.
“And basically, this is a song about a teenage lad named James who was attempting to apologize to the love of his life, and her name is Betty,” explained the 33-year-old Anti-Hero singer.
“[My songs] are like journaling or something for you, I guess. During the performance, the singer said, “[And] I wanted to do a different thing than I had done previously [with Folklore],” to loud cheers from the audience.
Knowing that my albums tend to be painfully autobiographical, I once said, “When I release an album, it just feels like having some type of live-streamed, public autopsy.”
“Would not it be so wonderful to construct characters and scenarios with this one,” she continued. They will be living in different eras, doing all these things, falling in love, hurting one another, starting wars, and so on. I therefore developed all these characters.
