Recently, there was a stir in Pakistan when veteran actor Rashid Mehmood shared his steep electricity bill for June 2024, sparking widespread sympathy on social media. Many users echoed his sentiments, attributing their own financial struggles to the country’s inflationary pressures, which have made managing household expenses increasingly challenging. This has prompted several other Pakistani celebrities to also speak out against the escalating costs of electricity and the burden of high utility bills.

Humaira Channa, renowned for her popular songs in Lollywood, spoke candidly about her distress over the soaring electricity charges. She remarked, “Inflation is affecting us deeply. As responsible citizens and representatives of Pakistan, we are grappling with hefty bills. I urge the authorities to ease our burden. My bill amounted to 60,000 PKR. We only use one AC at night; during the day, it remains off. Managing everything independently, especially with university-bound children, is tough without any additional support.”

Nooran Lal, another prominent singer, expressed frustration over the exorbitant bills and taxes, saying, “I’m Nooran Lal, addressing the current situation. Despite employing two meters to monitor our usage, we received bills totaling 40,000 and 33,000 PKR, accompanied by heavy taxes. As artists relying solely on our craft, it’s a constant struggle. As a single woman managing a household, the financial strain is overwhelming. We’ve always contributed through PTV shows without asking for much, yet now we face these financial challenges. Is this fair?” She made a direct plea to the government for relief.

Mishi Khan, a former actor and host, raised concerns about inflation and the anticipated rise in electricity costs following recent government price hikes per unit.
