The buzz around the web series Barzakh continues even after its finale. Zindagi TV recently announced that it will be pulling the show from YouTube Pakistan on August 9 due to controversy over what some have called its “inappropriate” content.

Designer Maria B has since threatened to take legal action, accusing the show of pushing “provocative” themes.

Rapper Ali Gul Pir has weighed in on the situation, pointing out that Barzakh is an Indian production. He questioned whether Maria B would target other international shows with similar content, such as Game of Thrones. On his Instagram stories, Gul Pir commented, “There are many things on the internet, on YouTube. We faced a YouTube ban for three years before. This [Barzakh] is an Indian product. Your actors acted in it, but it’s an international project. You cannot ban everything on the internet.”

Gul Pir also argued that banning such content often just makes it more popular. “You don’t have to watch these things. I didn’t even know about this drama until it became famous because of all this fuss. If you don’t like something, just don’t watch it. Banning everything isn’t the answer.”

He expressed frustration with the focus on media controversies rather than more urgent issues. “It’s disappointing that while the world moves forward, we’re stuck debating a drama. There’s no outrage about our performance at the Olympics or the state of Jinnah Hospital. But when it comes to a drama, everyone’s up in arms. We need to focus on real problems, like education and healthcare.”

In response to Zindagi’s decision, Barzakh‘s director, Asim Abbasi, has supported the move, citing concerns for his team’s safety.
