Cameron Diaz, once a prominent Hollywood star, surprised fans by stepping away from the spotlight in 2014. After building a successful career with blockbuster hits like “The Mask”, “There’s Something About Mary”, and “Charlie’s Angels”, Diaz announced her retirement from acting in 2018.

She explained that her decision stemmed from a desire to reclaim her personal life, stating, “It was just something I had to do.” During Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, Cameron Diaz shared that after years of dedicating herself to an industry that demanded so much of her time and energy, she wanted to focus on herself.

Cameron Diaz felt that stepping away from acting was essential for her well-being. During her time off, she reflected on the pressures of Hollywood and how they had affected her life. “It felt like something I had to do to reclaim my own life. And I just really didn’t care about anything else,” Diaz said.

Unconcerned with outside opinions or offers, Cameron Diaz began a new chapter away from the fast-paced movie industry. “Nobody’s opinion, success, offer, or anything else could change my decision to prioritize myself,” Diaz said. This shift allowed her to focus on building the life she truly wanted, one she had always desired but never fully achieved while in the spotlight.

Diaz may have stepped away from acting, but she found fulfillment in other ventures. In 2020, she co-founded Avaline, a vegan-friendly wine brand, with her close friend Katherine Power. This venture allowed Diaz to channel her creativity into something new while embracing a lifestyle aligned with her values. Diaz had redirected her focus from the career that defined her for over thirty years.

She dedicated herself to activities that gave her joy and meaning. “It really comes to: What are you passionate about? For me, it was to build my family,” Diaz had once said.

Cameron Diaz and her husband, Benji Madden, a musician from the band Good Charlotte, welcomed their first child, a daughter named Raddix, through surrogacy in 2019. Earlier this year, they expanded their family with the birth of their second child in March 2024.

The celebrated actress embraced peace in her new life, but her Hollywood journey is not over. In January, she will make her highly anticipated return to the big screen, co-starring with Jamie Foxx in the action-comedy “Back in Action” on Netflix.

Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx previously teamed up on “Any Given Sunday” and “Annie”, her final film before retiring from acting. In their new movie, Diaz plays Emily, a former CIA agent who, along with her partner Matt (played by Foxx), leaves espionage behind to start a family. However, when their cover is blown, they are forced back into action. Diaz credited Foxx for pulling her out of retirement, sharing in a 2022 Instagram post, “Jamie Foxx, only you could get me back in action!!! I can’t wait, it’s gonna be a blast!”
