Vicky Kaushal surprised his fans with the first-look poster of his role as the “eternal warrior of dharma,” Chiranjeevi Parashurama, in his upcoming film “Mahavatar”. Directed by “Stree 2” director Amar Kaushik, Kaushal’s unrecognizable look as the Chhaava actor has already captured fans’ attention. But do you know about Parashurama’s role in Hindu mythology? Read on to find out.

Parashurama is the 6th avatar of Lord Vishnu, also known as Rama Jamadagnya, Rama Bhargava, and Virarama in Hinduism. According to Rudrakshratna.com, the “Hari Vansh Purana” states that Kartaveerya Arjun, a king who ruled Mahishmati Nagri in central India, engaged in disruptive behavior with other Kshatriyas, making life difficult for the common people.

Lord Vishnu reincarnated as the son of Renuka, from a warrior family, and Jamdagani, a Brahmana, to fulfill the request of the Goddess of the Earth. When the ruling class tortured his family, he took up his axe to fight against them.

When his father, who resisted the confiscation of the family cow, was killed, Parashurama picked up his axe once again and killed all the demonic kings twenty-one times. As the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, he fought the monarchs and Kshatriyas to liberate the world from their evil influence. As a result, harmony was restored, and the story of Parashurama is remembered as a pivotal peace-restoring event in history.

Parashurama also appears in the “Ramayana” when Lord Rama lifts and breaks the divine bow Pinaka during Sita’s Swayamvara. It was the first time two avatars of Lord Vishnu confronted each other, leading Parashurama to realize that his purpose had been fulfilled by destroying the evil Kshatriyas after Lord Rama revealed his Vishnu avatar to him.

Additionally, in the “Mahabharata”, Parashurama served as the guru to Bhisma, Drona, Rukmi, and Karna.

As “Chiranjeevi” (immortal), Parashurama, unlike other avatars, is believed to still reside on earth according to Hindu belief. A significant temple dedicated to him stands at the holy site of Pajaka near Udupi, and many other temples in India’s western region also honor him.

Furthermore, Parashurama is one of the Chiranjivis (Immortals) who will appear at the end of the Kaliyuga to serve as the guru for Vishnu’s tenth and final incarnation, Kalki.
