Veteran Pakistani TV actor Laila Zuberi recently disclosed that she declined a film offer from legendary Bollywood filmmaker Raj Kapoor.
During an appearance on a private news channel’s talk show, Zuberi, a prominent figure in Pakistani television during the 1980s and 1990s, shared the remarkable encounter.
“Raj Kapoor offered me to work in his film when we met during the Sharjah Cup,” Zuberi revealed. The actor explained that she had met the renowned filmmaker while attending the event as a guest. The meeting became even more memorable when Kapoor asked for her autograph on their shared photographs.
“He said that they screen our dramas at their academy in Pune to teach students there,” Zuberi recalled, expressing pride in the acknowledgment of Pakistani television dramas at an international level.
When asked why she turned down the prestigious offer, Zuberi said, “It was a very proud moment for me, but I wanted to work for Pakistan only.”
Raj Kapoor, often referred to as “The Greatest Showman of Indian Cinema,” was one of Bollywood’s most influential filmmakers and actors. Zuberi’s decision reflects her dedication to promoting Pakistan’s television industry, even at the cost of such a rare opportunity.
