Jamie Foxx took the audience on an emotional journey as he recounted his stroke during his Netflix special, “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…”.

Reflecting on the incident, Foxx became emotional, wiping away tears as he shared his plea, “Please, Lord, let me get through this.” He recalled that on April 11, 2023, he experienced a severe headache and asked for an aspirin. Realizing the severity of the situation, he noted with a touch of humor that during a medical emergency, “your boys don’t know what the f**k to do.”

He then shared that “before he could get an aspirin, he “went out” and recalled not remembering 20 days. He told the crowd that his friends took him to a doctor in Atlanta, who treated him with a cortisone shot and then sent him home, but his sister Deidre Dixon knew something was not right.”

He then shared that “his sister drove him around Atlanta and came across Piedmont Hospital, which Dixon did not know anything about, but she had a hunch some angles (were) in there.”

The ”Django Unchained” star revealed that at the hospital, a doctor informed his sister that he was suffering from a “brain bleed that led to a stroke” and that if doctors didn’t operate immediately, he wouldn’t survive.

Foxx revealed that his sister, Dixon, stayed on her knees outside the operating room throughout the ordeal. He explained that the doctors were unsure of the stroke’s cause but told her he might fully recover, though it would be the “worst year of his life.” Foxx concluded, “That’s what it was, Atlanta. You finally got the story. You saved my life.”

While becoming emotional, Foxx recalled waking up to find himself in a wheelchair and wondering why he was in it. His friend Dave then told him that he had suffered a stroke and asked him not to try to get out of the chair, as he was unable to walk.

Foxx reenacted his attempt to get out of the wheelchair on stage but admitted he couldn’t and told his friend it must be a “horrible joke.” He shared, “Jamie Foxx don’t get strokes.” He then reflected emotionally, saying, “Stop this f***ing prank.”
