Taylor Swift shares how ‘Eras Tour’ concept came to life during her album creation
Swift published a retrospective book, "The Eras Tour Book," detailing the concept...
On Wednesday, Dec. 4, the streaming platform announced that 14-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift was the most-streamed artist globally for the second consecutive year. At 34, Swift garnered over 26.6 billion streams, surpassing The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Billie Eilish, who rounded out the top five.
Spotify celebrated Swift’s achievement by adding a Wrapped badge to her profile, marking the first time the platform made this distinction. The streaming service also introduced an Easter egg experience, allowing Swifties to discover unique surprises within the app.
Fans streaming her music will also see custom mini-animations created for each era of her discography on the Spotify Play Button.
Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department”, released in April during her Eras Tour, became the most-streamed album of 2024. Following her album were “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” by Billie Eilish, “Short n’ Sweet” by Sabrina Carpenter, “MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO” by KAROL G, and “eternal sunshine” by Ariana Grande, completing the year’s top five.
The “Lavender Haze” singer also dominated the list with three entries, as “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” and “Lover” joined her latest album among the most-streamed records of 2024.
Despite being the top artist and having the top album globally, Swift did not claim the No. 1 song. The most-streamed song on Spotify in 2024 was Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso”. Ranking in the No. 2-5 spots were Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things”, Billie Eilish’s “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”, FloyyMenor and Cris Mj’s “Gata Only”, and Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control”.
Swift’s “Cruel Summer’, from her 2019 album “Lover”, secured a spot in the global top 10, ranking at No. 9.
Swift reacted to the news on her Instagram Stories the same day. “Top Streamed Artist AND Album on @spotify this year?! You guys are unbelievable,” she wrote.
“What an amazing thing to find out going into our last weekend of eras shows 💋 THANK YOU!”
Swift achieved this major milestone shortly after being named the top artist of 2024 on both Amazon Music and Apple Music. She also claimed the top album on both platforms.
“Ahhhhhh thank you for listening to my music and TTPD so much!!!!! You, the fans, made The Tortured Poets Department the TOP STREAMED ALBUM of The Year on @applemusic!!!” Swift wrote on her Instagram Stories in response. “You guys snagged me that Top Streamed Artist spot too.”
Just days earlier, Billboard ranked Swift as the second greatest pop star of the 21st century. The list, released on Dec. 3, highlighted “artists who have most defined pop stardom for the last 25 years,” with Beyoncé securing the top spot.
