Netflix donates $10 million to support relief efforts in Los Angeles amid wildfire
As devastating wildfires continue to ravage the Los Angeles coastline, major entertainment companies and celebrities are stepping up with significant donations to aid those affected. Netflix and Comcast NBCUniversal have each pledged $10 million to support relief efforts.
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos announced the company’s donation will benefit five organizations, including World Central Kitchen and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. Similarly, Comcast CEO Brian L. Roberts allocated $2.5 million of Comcast’s donation to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles’ ReBUILD LA initiative, with the remainder supporting other charities assisting victims.
The Screen Actors Guild has also committed $1 million to assist members who have lost homes or been displaced by the fires, recognizing that many behind-the-scenes industry workers have been affected. Additionally, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS contributed $500,000 in emergency grants to provide meals, shelter, medical care, and financial assistance.
“These wildfires have left deep scars, but they’ve also ignited a powerful wave of support from Broadway to the West Coast,” said Robert E. Wankel, chairman of The Shubert Organization.
Singer Beyoncé’s foundation, BeyGOOD, launched a new LA Fire Relief Fund with a $2.5 million donation.
The fires have destroyed thousands of homes and claimed 24 lives, with many still missing. Relief efforts continue as support pours in.
