Jacob Elordi is preparing for an intense role in the Justin Kurzel-directed series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North”. Speaking at the Berlin Film Festival press conference on Saturday, February 15, the “Euphoria” actor revealed that he plays a prisoner of war in the series.

Elordi lost weight to authentically portray the character’s shabby and weak physicality. The actor recalled the process as “a really calming experience” because he got it do it with his fellow costars, whom he affectionately calls “lads.”

The “Saltburn” actor elaborated that sharing the experience brought him and his fellow cast members a sense of peace, helping them reach a deeper level of love beyond the ordinary. He explained that being “stripped away” from everything allowed them to connect on a purely human level.

They primarily focused on checking in on each other’s well-being and sharing jellybeans. “I think something quite profound happened, in that it wasn’t torture,” Elordi added. He expressed gratitude for experiencing the journey alongside his friends.

The series adapts Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name. The story follows Dorrigo Evans, a medical officer and Japanese prisoner of war, who must work on the Thai-Burma railway.

The protagonist constantly struggles with memories of his past, especially his affair with his uncle’s wife, Amy. According to the official synopsis, the series will span decades, following Evans’s journey from soldier to prisoner, then war hero, esteemed surgeon, and reluctant celebrity.
