Also, actors Taapsee Pannu and singer Sona Mohapatra have expressed shock at the court’s ruling in a marital rape case.

Taapsee retweeted a news clip on Twitter and wrote, “Bas ab yehi sunna baaki tha (This was all that was left to hear).”

Whereas, the singer wrote, “The sickness I feel reading this #India, is beyond anything I can write here.”

The Chhattisgarh High Court dismissed a case by a wife against her husband reporting rape. During the hearing, the Court said that even forced sexual act with wife does not account for rape.

Under the rape law, no provision criminalizes marital rape. The court said that Indian law does not recognize marital rape if the wife is older than 15 years.

Justice N K Chandravanshi speaking on the plea, said, “In this case, the complainant is legally wedded by the wife of applicant No. 1, therefore, sexual intercourse or any sexual act with her by the applicant No. 1/husband would not constitute an offence of rape, even if it was by force or against her wish.”

The wife’s complaint alleges that she was subjected to cruelty, abuse, dowry, and violence. She also claimed that her husband had unnatural physical relations with her and sexually hurt her.
