Deepika Padukone is one of Bollywood’s most popular actresses. However in a recent interview, she expressed concern over being “written off” because of her South Indian accent.
The actress, revealed that she comes from a sporting family and has a ‘frowned upon’ accent. “My South Indian accent was also frowned upon. And I was first concerned that I would be dismissed as a result,” she explained.

She was also asked about her feelings about being acknowledged. As one of the actors responsible for changing the way women are portrayed in movies. “Any appreciation for that transformation, no matter how modest or large, will be accepted,” Padukone remarked.
Deepika also discussed her struggle to reach the top. While achieving fame as one of India’s foremost female idols. “I observe the clear discrepancy between men and women in practically every facet of life.” She further added, “but I’ve never felt the need to compare.”

The actress and producer also discussed the changes she can now bring to the industry as a result of her success. “I became an observer by accident as an outsider to the industry. Which I believe has helped me to challenge the existing quo. I probably didn’t have the confidence or clout to affect change in the past. However the desire to do so was always there.”
