You have mostly seen Ranbir Kapoor play the typical romantic hero. He has also played some funny and some serious roles. But actor Ranbir Kapoor is excited about his next movie, Shamshera, which is a period action drama that will break all the stereotypes. In an honest conversation with us, Kapoor talks about the risk of making a movie set in the past and how our bodies changed for this project.

We haven’t seen him on the big screen in four years. Now, you have two movies coming out right after each other: Shamshera and Brahmastra.

Since Shamshera is a period action movie, we’ve seen in recent years how this type of movie has slowly built up a group of loyal fans. People either love period dramas deeply or don’t care about them at all. So, it’s a big risk, and there’s a lot at stake, even for an actor.

Changes to the body are always hard. I always say that an actor needs to be both an actor and an athlete. So, it’s hard to know when a role requires a change in how you look. But I don’t think the physical change alone is enough to get into this world of… In the 1800s, Shamshera is about a tribal leader who stood up for his tribe’s freedom and self-respect. And sometimes the fight for freedom is a legacy left behind by one group, and it is now your destiny to restore it to its former glory. And there are a lot of things that went into making this storyline work.

We had to practise the action scenes for months because I wanted to get the look right. He play two different characters in this movie: Shamshera, who is the father, and Balli, who is his son. They had to be very different from each other. But I think the director Karan Malhotra did so much prep work for the characters and the story that if it all seemed easy, it was because we had a great team with us, and I think that shows in the end.
