Alaya F says Anurag Kashyap offered her film after watching Reels

• Alaya praises Kashyap for standing with her when no one else would.

In 2020’s Jawaani Jaaneman alongside Saif Ali Khan and Tabu, Alaya F made her acting debut, but it wasn’t the first role she got. Before making her breakthrough in movies, the young performer opened up about her rejections-filled road. Alaya praises Anurag Kashyap for standing with her when no one else would. She will be seen in the director’s upcoming film, Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat, with Karan Mehta.

Alaya has experience in the film industry because both her mother Pooja Bedi and her grandfather Kabir Bedi worked in it before her. The actor remembered, however, that despite being invited to meetings and receiving positive comments, her first movie was still out of reach. Fortunately, a meeting with author-director Anurag made all of that different.

In an interview, Alaya shared, “Almost Pyaar was the first film I signed, even before my debut vehicle, Jawaani Jaaneman. At the time, I was facing back-to-back rejections. People would praise [my reel], but I would never hear back from them. This confused me about the industry, and made me doubt myself. But when I showed my reel to Anurag sir, he said, ‘I have a film that’s perfect for you.’ There was no more discussion; he offered me the film.”

Because of the filmmaker’s confidence in her, she was able to move on with her project more confidently. She added, “That someone like him could believe in me gave me unparalleled confidence. It made me think I am worthy of being in the industry. I credit all the things that I got later, to that moment with sir. In a way, my career changed after that.”

Alaya’s performance in Jawaani Jaaneman earned her the Best Female Debut trophy at the 2021 Filmfare Awards. She recently appeared in the Disney+ Hotstar movie Freddy with Kartik Aaryan. Alaya, Karan, and Anurag all saw the premiere of Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat at the Marrakech International Film Festival last month. Additionally, she has Ek Aur Ghazab Kahani and Sri, both starring Rajkummar Rao, scheduled for release in 2019.
