Kapil Sharma wishes good luck to Kajol for Salaam Venky. Every effort...
Kajol reveals why she said no to Salaam Venky at first
Since making a comeback in Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale (2015) opposite Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol has been selective about the movies she takes on and the themes they deal with. She nearly declined her forthcoming movie, Salaam Venky as well, which is based on Shirkant Murthy’s novel The Last Hurrah and is directed by Revathy.
Vishal Jethwa portrays Kajol’s ill son Venky in Salaam Venky. The ensemble cast of the upcoming drama movie also includes Aahana Kumra, Rahul Bose, Prakash Raj, Ananth Mahadevan, Priyamani, and Kamal Sadanah, who was Kajol’s first co-star.
Kajol admitted in an interview that she had second thoughts about agreeing to star in a movie where a child would be harmed on-screen. She claimed that the first thing she replied when Revathy approached her with a proposal for the movie was “no.”
Kajol elaborated, “I refused the film for three days. I was like, ‘I am not doing this film, I don’t want do a film in which anything happens to my children.’ I cannot handle that. It’s every parents’ worst nightmare, you wouldn’t even wish this on your enemy, it’s that kind of a situation.”
The National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English was given to Revathy’s directorial debut Mitr, My Friend in 2002. The 2004 Hindi film Phir Milenge, starring Shilpa Shetty, Salman Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan, was another of her films to direct.
The movie’s unique cameo appearance by Aamir Khan was teased in the teaser, which debuted earlier this month. The movie Salaam Venky is scheduled for release on December 9.
