Tanishk Bagchi has consistently drawn criticism for covering songs from Hindi movies, but the musician doesn’t seem to care. For remixing the enduring song Aap Jaisa Koi in Ayushmann Khurrana’s most recent movie, An Action Hero, the 42-year-old received ruthless criticism. The original song was performed by Pakistani pop singer Nazia Hassan, and it was filmed with actress Zeenat Aman in the past. The music composer claims that his profession is his only love in an interview, adding that he doesn’t give a damn what haters think.

“I don’t have the time to look at social media or negative comments. I am always occupied with my work. I get a song and then I move on to the next project. My work is my main passion and I do not focus on what everyone is saying. Award mil gaya na for an original song, it is a big thing,” says Bagchi.

Bagchi received recognition for his original song Raataan Lambiyan, which was featured in the film Shershaah, for the unversed.

Pakistani social media users flooded Twitter to mock Tanishk Bagchi for destroying the iconic melody. Additionally, Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui tweeted a jab at the recreated version as if that weren’t enough. “Is there something in the air that the world has suddenly developed a penchant for ruining perfect classics? Even re-creation requires talent. Nazia Hassan must be turning in her grave,” he wrote.

When asked about the remixes of their own songs that have garnered millions of views on Instagram, most recently Lata Mangeshkar’s Mera Dil Yeh Pukare Aaja, Bagchi responded that every trend is positive as long as people enjoy it. “They are creating their own genre. However, the attention span of people is becoming short. Abhi reel 15 seconds hai, kal ko 2 seconds ho jaayega,” he notes.

Bagchi clarifies the controversy surrounding the creation of songs specifically for Instagram reels. “It’s a marketing gimmick. The rules keep changing. It’s good if a specific part of the song is being focused on,” says the musician who is currently hooked to bangers like Calm Down, Pasoori, and Jhoom.

Bagchi reveals that these things are not in his control on the one song that he will never remake as he basks in the success of his most recent original song, Bana Sharabi, which was featured in Govinda Naam Mera.
