Kashmir Files, RRR, Gangubai, Kantara goes for Oscar nomination

The list of 301 movies eligible for Oscars includes last year’s greatest hit RRR, Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files, Rishab Shetty’s popular Kannada film Kantara. As well as India’s official Oscar entry Chhello Show (Last Film Show). The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) published the list on Tuesday. On January 24, the final nominations will be made public.

Marathi movies We are Tujhya Sathi Kahi and I, Vasantrao. Hello, The Nambi Effect by R Madhavan, Iravin Nizhal, and the Kannada film Vikrant Rona are also on the list. There are also the documentaries The Elephant Whisperers by Kartiki Gonsalves and All That Breathes by Shaunak Sen.

Expressing happiness on the same, Vivek Agnihotri wished all films the best and called it a “great year for Indian cinema”. He further tweeted, “#PallaviJoshi #MithunChakraborty @DarshanKumaar @AnupamPKher are all shortlisted for best actor categories. It’s just the beginning. A long long road ahead. Please bless them all.”

Movies that are formally eligible to compete in a variety of categories are included on the reminder list, however they might or might not be nominated in the end. India making it to four Oscar shortlists, the stage before nominations, may be a first.

For four categories, the Oscars shortlists for Chhello Show, RRR, All That Breathes, and The Elephant Whisperers have already been announced. The RRR song Naatu Naatu is included in the music (original song) category, while Chhello Show made it to the best international film section.
