Ahead of the 2023 Oscars, music director and vocalist AR Rahman supported SS Rajamouli’s song Naatu Naatu from the film RRR. The song is up for Best Original Song in the category, competing against artists including Lady Gaga and Rihanna. Rahman offered his backing for the Telugu song in the midst of this.

AR Rahman said, “I want Naatu-Naatu to win awards, I want them to win the Grammy also because any award for any of us will lift India up and the concentration of our culture will become higher.”

For the 2009 movie Slumdog Millionaire, AR Rahman and lyricist Gulzar shared the Best Original Song and Best Original Score Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences counts him among its members.

He said, “I thought it (India getting a nomination) would start ten years back. It’s 12 years late. This should happen every year from India because we are a country of 1.3 billion people and there are amazing geniuses in every aspect of filmmaking. Most of the movies don’t enter the competition. At least they (makers of RRR) had the thing to put it out there. If nobody knows your movie, who is going to vote for it? I wish them the very best and I want them to win.”

RRR by SS Rajamouli is already well-known all over the world. Jr. NTR and Ram Charan appear in the song. At the Oscars in 2023, Lauren Gottlieb, a Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa season 6 runner-up, will perform it. The award presentation occurs on March 12. (March 13 in India).

The movie has already won multiple awards on a global scale, including this year’s Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes for best song. It is the first Indian movie to be nominated for an Oscar Award in more than 20 years. MM Keeravani is the composer of Naatu Naatu.
