Amy and Andrew “went to mediation” and were “waiting” to announce their breakup

Before her relationship with her GMA3 co-anchor, T.J. Holmes was made public, Amy Robach waited to announce her divorce from estranged spouse Andrew Shue.

According to a source, the journalist and Shue, who are both 55 years old, were “almost ready to conclude their divorce” when the scandal surrounding Robach and Holmes’ connection broke.

“They were waiting on [the settlement] to tell people,” the source says of the pair, who got married in 2010. “The whole point of why she waited to share the news that her marriage was over: she went to [divorce] mediation.”

“The woman had cancer for a long time. She was very preoccupied with that,” the source continues. “Stuff with her and Andrew was difficult starting early summer this year and they had issues before.”.

The source adds that although Robach and Holmes, who has been wed to lawyer Marilee Fiebig since 2010, developed a relationship over time, they initially rejected any prospect of dating even when others spotted it.

“Everyone knew they were close friends and had good chemistry. She was going through a lot. There was a point at which, several years ago, another GMA cast member had sort of made a joke with T.J. about how close he was with Amy and he was very embarrassed,” the source says. “They had each gone through different things and people knew it was a friendship.”

“They joked how good their chemistry was, but they shut it down and made it clear they were each going through their own stuff and there was nothing between them,” the source adds. “She and T.J. just did things together all the time. Her daughter babysat for his daughter. They were open about it. Their lives were intertwined because of work and they were best friends, so when their marriages ended, he was there for her and it was a very natural transition.”

Robach and Holmes’ connection was made public on Wednesday as a result of images showing them cuddling at a bar in New York City, taking a vacation in upstate New York, and holding hands in a car.

Both journalists deleted their Instagram accounts some hours afterward. Following the revelation, Shue also deleted all pictures of Robach from his Instagram account on Wednesday.

Similar sentiments regarding the evolution of Robach and Holmes’ relationship over time were previously expressed by a second source.

“Amy was going through a heartache and TJ was very much there for her and helpful, and that is when they started something,” the source said. “They had no shame going out together and have been publicly doing this for much longer than a month.”

The initial source, though, asserted that the couple did not start dating until after they had ended their respective marriages.

“This involved two independent individuals who gave their consent. Within a few weeks of one another in August, they both ended their marriages “added the insider. “Only after that did the relationship begin.”

According to the source, Robach “had nothing to hide,” he continued, adding that since they were both divorced, they felt very at ease dating in public afterward. Even their spouses had relocated! They weren’t concealing anything, then.”

The insider stated that Robach and Shue secretly advertised their flat in New York City’s West Village in September 2022, and the deal to purchase it was finalized on November 18—two weeks before Robach’s relationship with Holmes became public knowledge.

Although they made a passing reference to the relationship during Friday’s GMA3: What You Need to Know show, Robach and Holmes have not officially discussed their relationship.

Holmes made a joke at the start of the program, “It’s a shame it’s Friday because it’s been a terrific week, you know. I simply want this to go on and on and on. Simply have fun.”

As Robach informed Holmes, she giggled “Be your own advocate. Like everyone else, I am quite eager for the weekend. Around here, at least some of us enjoy our Fridays.”
