Celine Dion is worried about her health crisis
Celine Dion health issues have been many unfounded reports about along the Las Vegas Strip. A Canadian songbird who sang to millions of followers for 15 years served as the sequined queen of this little town.
Because here is the home that Celine built, as Las Vegas journalist Scott Roeben put it during her illustrious stint at Caesars Palace.
“People had been telling me for some time that Celine would not be returning to live to perform — maybe ever at all,” Roeben told the source.
This week, Dion put an end to the rumors with an emotional video shared on social media. Dion credits Vegas gigs for a large portion of her estimated $470 million fortune. The artist made the announcement that she will be rescheduling or canceling her gigs due to a neurological condition known as stiff person syndrome.
“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through,” she said.
“Recently I have been diagnosed with a very rare neurological syndrome, which affects something like one in a million people,” she continued, explaining that the side effects have been brutal.
Just one month before she was scheduled to perform, Dion, now 54, first revealed in October 2021 that she would have to postpone her new Las Vegas residency at Resorts World owing to “severe” muscular spasms. She postponed her European trip and canceled her North American tour some months later.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, stiff person syndrome results in rigidity and spasms in the trunk and limbs. Leg muscles are the first to stiffen over time, followed by the arms and face muscles.
The “Power of Love” singer claimed that the illness has made it difficult for her to walk and has made it impossible for her to sing as she “used to.”
“All I know is singing,” she said. “It’s what I’ve done all my life, and it’s what I love to do the most.”
“When it’s Celine, it’s not what you do, it’s who you are,” Roeben said of her love of performing. “To have it taken away, it’s even more tragic.
“My sources believe she may not be able to return to the stage. After that initial talk of struggling with muscle spasms, we started hearing about how serious things were, but Celine is the type of person who doesn’t want people to be unnecessarily concerned: Her fans are obsessed with every breath she takes. They hang on every word.”
Dion has been open about her struggles since losing her manager and husband René Angélil in January 2016 after a protracted fight with throat cancer. He was the only man Dion ever kissed, as she has stated, and it was Angélil who assisted her in securing her first residency with Caesars in 2003. According to AEG, her residencies have since generated $681.3 million in revenue.
According to a source who knew the couple, “Since René died, it’s been quite difficult. He wasn’t present to keep Celine safe. He served as her compass and took care of everything for her. Everything that Celine needed from management to finances to music creation depended on him, and since his death, things have gotten worse.
“I’m not sure exactly who she has in her corner looking after her anymore, or if they have her best interests at heart,” the insider said, adding: “It’s true — she may not ever be able to perform live again.”
According to a 2019 source, there were worries that Dion would be under the influence of a new group of acquaintances, including her “best friend” and former backup dancer Pepe Muoz.
“Pepe is like her boy toy who is really trying to take over. He’s isolating her and people are feeling it. She’s in love with this guy and listens to everything he’s saying. People go to him when they have questions. He’s fully taken over. The only people around her now [are] Pepe, the hairdresser, and the stylist,” said a source at the time.
Muoz, who is wed to the artist Brayden Newby, hasn’t recently shared any pictures of Dion on his Instagram page, and he wasn’t accessible to comment.
In 1980, Dion and Angélil were both living in Quebec, Canada. The 38-year-old married father of three threw up all of his other acts and refinanced his home in order to make Dion, who was 12 at the time, a star.
When Dion was 19 and Angélil was 45, the two began an illicit relationship. René, for so many years I’ve kept our particular dream locked up inside my heart. Dion finally confirmed their relationship in the liner notes of her 1993 album, “The Colour of My Love.” However, it is now too potent to contain.
