Daniel Craig in Queer, shy and self-conscious Lee describes his existence in Mexico City, where he encounters and pursues Allerton, a recently discharged Florida-based American Navy serviceman (based on Burroughs’ friend Adelbert Lewis Marker).

Craig confessions of an Unredeemed Drug Addict was written between 1951 and 1953 as a spiritual successor, the book wasn’t released until 1985, when Burroughs revealed that it was a representation of him on heroin.

The cinematic adaptation is being written by Justin Kuritzkes, according to Deadline.

In 2011, Oren Moverman’s book was to receive a second adaptation under the direction of Steve Buscemi, with Stanley Tucci, Ben Foster, and John Ventimiglia committed to the lead roles.

Craig’s selection follows another scene-stealing performance in an LGBTQ role, in which his Knives Out detective Benoit Blanc’s sexual orientation was revealed in director Rian Johnson’s upcoming Netflix sequel Glass Onion, which debuts on the streaming service on December 23.

Hugh Grant’s character, who plays Benoit, was seen to be cohabitating with another guy, and Johnson affirmed that Benoit is “clearly” gay.

Craig revealed this information to Deadline: “All is well. For me, it’s actually better if we don’t make a big deal out of it because it just made sense.”

“Who wouldn’t want to live with the person he happens to live with, as I remarked at the [BFI London Film Festival]? It’s lovely, enjoyable, “Craig continued. “Why shouldn’t it be, then? I don’t want someone to become overly politicized about anything.”

With his critically and commercially successful 2017 adaptation of another LGBT classic, André Aciman’s 2007 novel Call Me by Your Name, Gudagnino established himself as an out homosexual director. At the Academy Awards, the film received a Best Picture nomination.
