Kelli Giddish is appreciating her lengthy farewell, she says. She is remembering the good times from her 12 seasons on the NBC blockbuster Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as Detective Amanda Rollins, who turned up her badge on Thursday night.

“It’s funny because, after last night’s show, it does feel more final now. I didn’t expect today to feel that way,” “Giddish, 42, reports to a source. “Now that it’s over, everybody has seen it. Everyone has had the chance to witness it and go through the same emotions as I did when filming Mariska’s final scene.”

Rollins and Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), who had accepted Rollins’ retirement from the unit, hugged in Benson’s office during the midseason finale, “And a Trauma in a Pear Tree.”

“You won’t lose me. We’re close. That will not alter. I’m not going anywhere “Benson was soothed by Rollins.

“I wouldn’t let you if you tried,” replied Benson. “Don’t postpone joy,” Benson added, before saying, “I love you, Amanda.”

Giddish explains that the on-screen tears between her and Hargitay, 58, weren’t just for show, proving that life does really imitate art. She responds, “Of course [they were real]!” “Sure,” you say.

Rollins was introduced to viewers in season 13 of SVU as a transplant from Georgia to New York City who was attempting valiantly to learn from Benson, who was still mourning the loss of her partner, Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni).

After more than ten years, Rollins eventually became Benson’s closest buddy. Off-screen, those 12 years also held a lot of significance for the two women.

“That relationship really developed organically over time into such a strong female relationship. And it wasn’t like I came on the show 12 years ago and we were like, ‘Hey, I’m going to be your best buddy,'” Giddish recalls. “It wasn’t that. Every step of the way was earned, every hardship and every step back, Rollins had to fight her way back into being trusted again. So it was really fun to play and it kind of mirrors mine and Mariska’s relationship in real life.”
