  • Elphaba is coming out in Maren Morris!
  • On Friday, the 32-year-old country music diva sang a duet of “For Good” from the musical Wicked at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, where she was joined by Broadway legend Kristin Chenoweth.
  • Morris wrote an Instagram video of their emotional performance, “Never getting over this.”

Morris sings Elphaba’s portion in the video, which they each uploaded to their individual Instagram accounts after the performance. Chenoweth, 54, of course, sings Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, the role she created when Wicked initially debuted on Broadway.

Morris wore a dazzling black outfit throughout their duet, while Chenoweth was visible onstage in white. To overwhelming acclaim from the audience, the two hugged each other warmly at the conclusion of the video.

Morris and Chenoweth’s duet came about months after the country singer revealed her desire to play Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked.

Morris tweeted that she would submit a tape for the musical’s auditions in May. Morris said, “I identify greatly as an Elphaba but dear god her songs are high,” in response to a fan’s question about whether she would be trying out for Glinda or Elphaba.

Morris later disclosed that she was called back for the popular musical in August. “Wicked called me for a callback. I’m crying now. Why the heck “The Grammy Award winner tweeted with a green heart and a crying face emoji.

Chenoweth provided some words of support at that moment, tweeting to Morris, “You go, sweetheart! I knew you could handle it! Xoxooxo.”

Morris also shared her feelings about getting the callback on Instagram.

Because this is 14-year-old Maren getting to accomplish something that was never in reach, she remarked, “Y’all, I literally don’t even care β€” well, I do! β€” if I move beyond this callback.”

Morris said, “It simply never felt conceivable.” “In any case, I want to thank you for travelling with me. We’ll see how it develops. Simply put, I’m quite delighted. I cherish Wicked! I cherish Elphaba. I like Kristin Chenoweth; I’d like to thank you for motivating me to just send in a self-tape. I am at a loss for words.”
