As one of the world’s greatest fan conventions, all of the major studios have descended on Sao Paulo for the return of CCXP, Brazil’s gigantic pop culture festival, to celebrate the eagerly awaited upcoming television program and motion pictures. While several of the projects at CCXP this weekend have 2023 release dates, Netflix is giving us a sneak peek at a series that will be available in just a few short weeks. The Witcher: Blood Origin, a star-studded Netflix prequel series, is scheduled to premiere on Christmas Day. Today at CCXP, the streamer unveiled the full trailer for the upcoming series, and boy is it packed with exciting material.

The new clip depicts the elven kingdom in all its splendor before being engulfed by humans and other creatures. The trio of Scan (Michelle Yeoh), Éile (Sophia Brown), and Fjall (Laurence O’Fuarain) take center stage in the latest teaser as we finally go into a little of each of their storylines. This is consistent with the prior hints we’ve received about the series. A pair of warriors named Éile and Fjall are alienated from their respective clans.

These two exude fantastic enemies-to-lovers vibes in the new footage, which will have you impatiently anticipating Blood Origin’s release. Scan, meantime, is the last of her kind and a master of the blade. As each new player is introduced as a member of the group “bound together to fight an unstoppable empire,” we also learn that these three will be joined by four additional warriors through a voiceover by Seancha, played by Minnie Driver.

Preceding the events of Netflix’s The Witcher by 1200 years, The Witcher: Blood Origin is a television series. Blood Origin covers “a story lost to time — investigating the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the momentous Conjunction of the Spheres when the realms of monsters, mankind, and elves combined to become one,” according to the official summary of the program. The iconic PlayStation video game franchise of the same name served as the inspiration for both the first season of the show and its impending prequel. The Witcher: Blood Origin will explore the rich lore and foundation that the main series is built upon, whereas The Witcher tells an original story set during the same time period as the games.

Who is in The Witcher: Blood Origin?

Joey Batey, who will be reprising his role as Jaskier, will make an appearance in the upcoming limited series, as shown in the new trailer. The Witcher: Blood Origin stars Batey, Driver, Brown, Yeoh, and O’Fuarain in addition to Lenny Henry as Chief Sage Balor, Francesca Mills as Meldof, Huw Novelli as Brother Death, and Zach Wyatt and Lizzie Annis as a pair of celestial twin sages named Syndril and Zacaré. Mirren Mack plays Princess Merwyn.

The limited series’ supporting cast also includes Daniel Fathers, Faoileann Cunningham, and Amy Murray as clan chieftain Osfar and his daughter Ryl, and Mark Rowley as King Alvitir. Ket, played by Kim Adis, Bran, portrayed by Nathaniel Curtis, and Uthrok One-Nut, played by Dylan Moran, will be Merwyn’s handmaid. Finally, Claire Cooper will play Ithlinne’s mother Aevenien and Ella Schrey-Yeats will play the little prophet Ithlinne.
