  • Nick Carter found it difficult to return to performing after the passing of his younger brother, but the encouragement of his bandmates and supporters meant the world to him.
  • Nick spoke candidly about the London event where he sobbed as the Backstreet Boys paid tribute to the late Aaron during a sit-down interview with Extra on Friday.
  • Having my guys there was incredibly emotional for me, Nick, 42, said to the publication. It was challenging to ascend to the stage that evening.

He went on, “The adage “The show must go on” has been around for a while, but that evening I wasn’t sure what to anticipate. Getting on the platform was a gamble for me because I had no idea what would happen. Receiving the response from the audience was undoubtedly consoling and meant a lot to me.”

The O2 Arena crowd heard singer Kevin Richardson say, “Tonight we got a little bit of sorrowful emotions since we lost one of our family members yesterday,” during the performance.

Richardson, 51, continued, “We just wanted to make a minute in our show to realise that Nick’s little brother, Aaron Carter, passed away yesterday at the age of 34.

He was a member of our family, and we are grateful for your support, love, and well wishes.

Nick then reportedly started crying, according to video that was uploaded to the website All That Dazzles. Brian Littrell offered his sleeve to Carter so he could wipe his eyes while bandmates AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, and Brian Littrell came over to embrace him in response.

“This following song is dedicated to Aaron Carter, our younger brother. Before the band began playing “Breathe,” Dorough said, “You will be missed brother.”

The day after his death, Nick commented on the news on social media, stating, “My heart has been broken today.”

In a post that included several old pictures of the brothers as children, he said, “Even though my brother and I have had a rocky relationship, my love for him has never ever waned. I’ve always clung to the belief that he will eventually want to follow a healthy path and get the assistance he so sorely needed.

“Sometimes we want to place the blame for a loss on someone or something,” Nick concluded. “The real enemy in this situation, however, is actually addiction and mental illness. I’ll miss my brother more than anyone could possibly imagine. I adore you, Chizz, and now you have the chance to experience the kind of calm that is impossible to find on earth. God, please watch over my little brother.”
